Registration Procedure for 2022 Volcano Marathon

Registration is a simple two-step process. You must

1. Agree to the Terms & Conditions, and complete the Application Form below*
2. Pay the entry fee.

Please print this page and retain for your records. Once the entry fee has been received, your place will be confirmed in the field.

COMPETITION

There is an individual competition for both male and female competitors.

RULES & REGULATIONS

1. The event is the classic marathon distance of 42.2km (26.2 miles). There is also a half-marathon option.
2. Individual results will be categorised into male and female divisions.
3. Any athlete who exhibits severe conditions that are deemed detrimental to their health may be withdrawn from the race by officials or stopped temporarily while appropriate treatment and advice is administered.
4. The Race Director's decisions are final.

Your submission of the registration form accepts the Rules and Regulations as outlined above. The race entry fee is EUR 3,500, or EUR 5,000 for a couple or two friends (both runners) sharing one room  or EUR 4,000 total for a couple that includes one non-runner (who is otherwise participating in all other activities). 

You must;

1. Fill in the Application Form and click Register for the 2021 Volcano Marathon
2. Agree to the Terms & Conditions when prompted
3. Make the relevant payment in order to confirm your place in the 2021 Volcano Marathon.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS - 2022 Volcano Marathon

EVENT

The 2022 Volcano Marathon will be run over the classic marathon distance of 42.2km (26.2 miles). There is also a half-marathon option.

DATES OF 2022 VOLCANO MARATHON TRIP

The provisional dates of the overall trip are November 14th - November 19th, 2022. The date of the Volcano Marathon is November 17th, 2022.

Day 1: November 14th - Arrive in San Pedro de Atacama
Day 2: November 15th- Visit Salt Mountain Range and Velley of the Moon 
Day 3: November 16th - Visit Valley of Death. Pasta Party.
Day 4: November 17th - 2021 Volcano Marathon 
Day 5: November 18th - Post Race Party
Day 6: November 19th - Depart San Pedro de Atacama

DESCRIPTION & RESERVATIONS

For the resgistration fee of EUR 3,500 Global Running Adventures will provide:

• 5 days accommodation at a top hotel in San Pedro de Atacama*
• entry to the 2022 Volcano Marathon
• manned aid stations and support during the race
• excursions to the Salt Mountain Range, Valley of the Moon and Valley of Death
• post-race celebration party
• t-shirts, medals and other souvenirs
• professional photography of the race (personal use only)

A completed Registration Form, which includes agreement with the Terms & Conditions, and payment of EUR 3,500 are required to secure a place in the field. *Entry fee for couple (both running) in one room is EUR 5,000 total. Entry fee for couple with one being a non-runner is EUR 4,000.

MEDICAL

All participants should be in excellent health and capable of easily completing a regular 42.2km (26.2 mile) marathon. Please consult with your doctor before entering the 2022 Volcano Marathon. You should have appropriate medical insurance for travelling to Chile.

PAYMENT SCHEDULE

Full payment to firmly secure place will be accepted upon registration.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

The preferred method is by bank wire transfer: contact Race Director Richard Donovan at npmarathon@gmail.com for the relevant bank details.

CANCELLATIONS

• There is a full refund if you cancel before August 15th 2022.
• Cancellations from August 15th 2021 can be charged the full entry fee of EUR 3,500 / EUR 5,000 for couple / two friiends sharing room / EUR 4,000 for couple with one being a non-runner.

Please note: In the event of withdrawal by a participant, every effort will be made to find a replacement competitor rather than charge a fee. In the absence of finding a replacement competitor, a free place in a future edition of the event will be offered to those suffering serious injury or sickness or immediate family bereavement close to the event.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

You must have a valid passport beyond your date of return and the appropriate visa and vaccination documents, if relevant, for entry to Chile.

TRAVEL / MEDICAL INSURANCE

Each participant is responsible for their own insurance to cover trip cancellation and interruption as well as illness or injury.

USE OF IMAGE

I understand that during the race or in related activities, I may be photographed, filmed, and/or videotaped. I agree to allow my name, photo, video or film likeness to be used for any legitimate promotional purpose by the event holders, producers, sponsors, organisers and assigns.

INSURANCE

I certify that I will have adequate insurance to cover unanticipated trip cancellation /interruption, and any injury or damage that may occur on the trip, or which I may suffer while participating, or else I agree to bear the costs of such injury or damage myself.

VOLUNTARY PARTICIPATION AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK

I acknowledge that I have voluntarily applied to participate in the 2022 Volcano Marathon and that I have carefully read and understand the description, terms, conditions and recommendations of the trip. I am participating in this race with the full knowledge of any hazards involved. 

I understand that the Atacama Desert is a very remote area and will be desolate of immediate medical facilities. The nearest hospital to the race location is at the town of Calama, some 200 km away. I understand that I will be running a marathon at altitude, which can exert extreme demands on the body, and I will be exposing myself to the risks of altitude sickness because the event starts at over 14,000 feet. The Volcano Marathon will also take place in extreme heat, with temperatures potentially reaching 50+ Celsius Degrees in November. I fully accept that the combination of the race distance, altitude and heat could actually put me at risk of death by running a marathon in such a remote location.

I further understand that Global Running Adventures, Richard Donovan and other organisers cannot 100% guarantee the safety of competitors since the event wil be carried out in a harsh and remote environment, the driest desert on Earth.

In consideration of being permitted to participate in this trip, I fully assume responsibility upon myself for such bodily, mental, and financial injuries caused by, but not limited to various surface transportation, accidents, hazards of travelling in the Atacama Desert environment, forces of nature, civil unrest, terrorism, and other perils. I freely assume these and all other risks inherent in this Volcano Marathon trip, in exchange for the thrill and adventure of travelling and participating in the Volcano Marathon.

I hereby assume all risks, however caused, including those mentioned above, as a result of my participation.

RELEASE FROM LIABILITY

In consideration of the services of Global Running Adventures, agents, owners, officers, volunteers, participants, employees, sponsors, medical personnel and all other persons, or entities acting in any capacity on their behalf: I hereby agree to release, indemnify, and discharge them, on behalf of myself, my children, my parents, my heirs, assigns, personal representatives and estate as follows:

I release Global Running Adventures (95 Rosan Glas, Galway H91X0VN, Ireland) and all of its agents and representatives or other entities acting on their behalf from any and all liability, actions, causes of actions, suits, debts, and demands that I may have for bodily injury, death, or property damage, loss of income, delays and claims of every sort and nature whatsoever which may arise out of or in connection with my participation in the 2022 Volcano Marathon.

GOVERNING LAW AND JURISDICTION

The validity, construction and performance of this Agreement shall be governed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Ireland. The parties hereby irrevocably submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Irish courts as regards any claim, dispute, or matter arising out of, or in connection with this Agreement.

SIGNATURE

I have carefully read and understand the description, terms, conditions and recommendations of the 2022 Volcano Marathon and I am participating with a thorough knowledge of the hazards involved. I freely and voluntarily agree to the terms and conditions of the 2022 Volcano Marathon by signing this contract.
