The Volcano Marathon is recognized as an official 42.195km, or 26.2-mile marathon on the South American continent. It is a full member of the Association of International Marathons & Distance Races (AIMS).

The 7 Marathons Club is comprised of runners who have completed a distance of a marathon (26.2 miles) or longer on each of the Seven Continents, including either the Antarctic Ice Marathon or the Antarctica Intercontinental Marathon, which is part of the World Marathon Challenge (7 Marathons 7 Continents 7 Days).  These are the only two official marthons on the Antarctica continent and within the Antarctic Circle.

The Marathon Grand Slam Club is comprised of runners who have completed a marathon on each of the Seven Continents AND on the Arctic Ocean in the North Pole Marathon.

New members of both clubs receive a 7 Marathons Club and / or Marathon Grand Slam Club medal. To be eligible for membership, you must have completed a recognized marathon or ultramarathon on each of the continents and be able to authenticate your claim for membership.
